講座大綱：

在台灣錄影藝術萌芽階段，盧明德與郭挹芬兩人的創作實踐，具有轉捩性的指標意義，當代思潮的洗禮迫使他們在文化衝擊的裂隙中展開檢視與省思，將影像與裝置視為一種乘載新思維的媒介，同時也開闢了以往靜態、固定、涇渭分明的傳統藝術分類模式。至此，以觀念先決、複合式的手法選用最契合的媒材，在影像與空間的模糊虛實界線間，作品成為介入社會、環境的觸手，使藝術從造形語言取向移轉至文化層面的探討，在媒體解放中形塑出更為寬廣的論述場域。本講座將重現珍貴的台灣早期錄影作品，重新考掘盧明德與郭挹芬在台灣錄影藝術史的重要定位。

Topic: Media Excavation: The Beginning of Taiwan’s Video Art

Synopsis:

During the infancy of Taiwan’s video art, the creative practices of Lu Ming-te and Kuo I-Fen were a significant transitional index. Baptism by the flood of contemporary thought compelled them to begin inspection and contemplation within the fissures, and to use video and installation as a medium that carried a new mode of thought. At the same time, they opened up the traditions of static, fixed, and distinct classifications of art. At this juncture, concepts determined the complex selection of suitable media. In the blurred virtual boundaries of image and space, these works became tentacles with which to enter society and the environment. Art was transformed from its stylistic lexicon into an exploration on the level of culture, and shaped a more expansive narrative realm in this liberation of media. This lecture will re-examine precious early video work in Taiwan, and re-discover the important historical role Lu Ming-te and Kuo I-Fen played in Taiwan’s video art history.
