講座大綱:

錄像是當代藝術中極為重要的一個範疇,它出現在當代藝術嘗試面對媒體時代的歷史契機上,不僅極具社會意義,同時也在這激進性中瓦解了藝術原有的範疇界定。隨著這樣的發展,它不再是僅僅屬於特定媒材的範疇,而是一個新的場域,甚至曾經被界定為影像的生成流通場域,一個新的藝術民主場域。這個民主場域連結上文化批評、產業思考與科技語言,但與此同時,台灣當代藝術又如何回應這半世紀前發生的新發展?一如許多亞洲國家或第三世界國家,我們編織著一種雙重的螺旋結構:文化殖民結構中的前衛觀念與社會政治結構中的生命狀態。藝術在台灣的雙重他治狀態,無疑地,鋪陳出許多未被定義的痕跡。

Topic: Video Images: Avant-garde History or Life History?

Synopsis:

Video is an integral aspect of contemporary art. It appeared at a historical moment, as contemporary art attempted to confront the media age. Not only does it embody social significance, but its radical nature has dissolved the scope of existing definitions of art. Through these developments, video is no longer limited by specificities of medium; it has become a new field that is growing and in flux, and a new democratic field for art. This democratic field is linked to cultural critique, industrial thought, and technological language; but at the same time, what has been the response from Taiwanese contemporary art to new developments that occurred in the first half of the century? Like many Asian countries and Third World nations, we weave a type of double-helix structure: avant-garde concepts within structures of colonized culture, and a life-state within a socio-political structure. Within this duality of outside rule, art in Taiwan has undoubtedly laid down numerous, still-undefined traces.
