講座大綱:

袁廣鳴的作品介乎單頻道錄影與電影兩者的微明幽界,早期的錄影作品,於台灣錄影藝術萌發之際嶄露出電影思維,在視覺、意念和造型母題上結合音像與雕塑,畫面營造虛實相滲又不斷反覆。其單頻道錄影創作片段的影像,交織出富有動態的情狀,不僅深具電影技藝之感,也延伸至後期謬力發揮動、靜影像變換,鏡頭倏地逼近又遠退等呈顯個人記憶時空往復的諸種表現。陳正才擅長運用影像、複合媒材與裝置手法,拉開歷史縱深,展開對於文化背景、時空與記憶的探討,而後更將錄像結合網路技術,擴充了展演空間的概念。而林俊吉的作品則呈現內化後再輸出的精神性轉換,兩人同樣以人文關懷視角下的「溝通式」美學方法論,開啟了感知主體反身性思考的契機。本講座邀請長年觀察錄像藝術創作的資深藝評人王嘉驥,與袁廣鳴、陳正才、林俊吉對談1980年代後期到1990年代台灣錄像藝術語彙的轉向。

Topic: The Politics and Aesthetics of Visual Contemplation

Synopsis:

YUAN Goang-Ming’s work exists in the twilight between single-channel video and film. His early video work revealed a cinematic ideology at the cusp of a germinating Taiwanese video art form. Combining picture, sound, and sculpture in visual, conceptual, and stylistic motifs, a composite of the virtual and the real was created and repeated on screen. His single-channel video works created fragments of images that wove together dynamic situations that not only had the feel of cinematic technique, but also extended into a range of expressions of individual spatial-temporal memory: the powerful transition between still- and moving-images, a lens that is suddenly close-up then retreating, etc. CHEN Cheng-Tsai is adept in his manipulation of images, of composite-media, and installation methods which expand historical depth, and open up a discussion of cultural backdrops, temporal-space, and memory; all of which was later combined with internet technology to broaden concepts of performance space. LIN Chun-Chi’s work expresses a psychological transition of internalization followed by output. Both of these artists were concerned with aesthetic methodologies from the perspective of a humanist concern with “communication style” which opened up opportunities for a sensory, subjective, and reflexive contemplation. This lecture series has invited a longtime observer of video art creation and senior art critic Chia-Chi Jason WANG, in a discussion with YUAN Goang-Ming, CHEN Cheng-Tsai, and LIN Chun-Chi on transitions in the lexicon of Taiwanese video art from the late 1980s until 1990.
