「行動博物館─當代木雕之美」巡迴展

木材是古代中國建築的主要材料，木構件是古建築的結構，木刻則是木結構的靈魂，宏偉和莊嚴的佛寺、富麗堂皇的宮殿建築，及民間寺廟、民宅、樓臺亭閣等，皆為古代建築匠師運用卓越的技巧結合精緻的雕工淋漓盡緻的表現。

中國的傳統木雕藝術，向來多數用於建築與用具上的裝飾，而流傳下來的木雕藝術，更有大部份是神佛雕像。木雕，除了欣賞其材質的溫潤、色澤、紋理的優美，木雕師匠心獨運的巨斧神工，方是令人懾服之處。由於雕刻工具隨著機具的發明，增強了木頭的可塑性，經由粗坯的雕、鑿、刻、鏤，細部的修飾、表面的打磨處理，每一步驟皆有著木雕師賦予木頭藝術生命的心血，因而木雕從傳統建築家具、宗教神像，生活器具，發展至今為精彩的木雕藝術，皆能融入生活而廣為應用。臺灣現代木雕藝術即沿襲傳統發展而來，因特殊時空背景、地理環境，造就了名聞遐邇的三義木雕，不僅延續木雕藝術之命脈，更帶給地方文化產業生存之契機。

本次「行動博物館─當代木雕之美」巡迴展由三義木雕博物館與中原大學藝術中心合作，木雕博物館是目前全國唯一以木雕藝術為專業之公立博物館，於1995年4月開館。以發揚木雕藝術為主，並兼負木雕作品之蒐集、典藏、展示、研究以及推廣，透過博物館之設施與營運，達到溝通、教育與旅遊休憩等多元性功能。為傳承、發揚傳統木雕技藝，木雕博物館舉辦展覽與競賽；並推動木雕藝術由館內延伸至國內各地，將博物館的典藏精品透過「行動博物館」推展，並於展覽期間舉辦木雕師現場創作活動、DIY創作活動，豐富觀眾之視覺饗宴，擴大觀眾與創作者間的對話並帶給觀者新的視野與啟示。

Mobile Museum—Contemporary Wood Sculptures Traveling Exhibition

Wood is an important material of ancient Chinese architecture, and a part of architectural structure. Wood sculptures are the soul of wooden structures. Magnificent Buddhist temples, sumptuous palaces, as well as temples, houses, multi-story buildings, were all constructed by ancient architects using excellent skills and woodcraft.

Traditional Chinese woodcraft is mostly applied to decorate architectures and tools, and most wood art that has been passed down are Buddhist sculptures. Aside from the beauty of the wood sculptures’ color and texture, woodcraftsmen’s impressive, unique, and amazing skills are worth noting. Wood carving tools strengthen the malleability of wood. Woodcraftsmen put their heart and soul into each process, from the sculpturing, chiseling, carving, and engraving to the grinding and polishing of wood. Today, wood sculptures are no longer only found in traditional furniture, religious statues or models, and appliances; they have evolved into spectacular wood artworks that are incorporated into our lives and used worldwide. Due to spatial-temporal background and geographical environment, Sanyi is well-known for its wood sculptures, which has brought about new life into local cultural industry.

The Mobile Museum—Contemporary Wood Sculptures Traveling Exhibition is co-organized by Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum and Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) Art Center. Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum became open to the public in April 1995 and is currently the only public museum in Taiwan that collects, exhibits, researches, and promotes wood artworks. With the museum’s facilities and operations, Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum offers education, tourism, and recreation to visitors. In order to pass on and promote traditional woodcraft, the museum holds exhibitions and contests as well as promotes woodcraft nationwide. Classic collections are promoted by mobile museums, in which creative activities by woodcraftsmen and DIY activities are arranged to give visitors an unforgettable, rich visual feast, broaden their horizons, and provide inspirations.
