講座綱要:

在媒體就是一切的新時代,媒體力量無遠弗屆,深受其影響的年輕藝術家,是如何透過身體演練,呈現出身體身處媒體邏輯內的異同?他們除了關注個人微觀世界之外,更關心自身的私密性,乃至於性、愛、死亡暴力、科技力量、虛幻與存在等議題,而流行媒體、網際網路與電玩的影響,則可以從其大量運用剪接技巧、新材質或廣告手法的作品中嗅出這類傾向。無論是創作手法或對身體的概念,與以往的藝術家有著不同看法與表現方式,這和客觀環境變遷、價值觀改變與道德感減弱都有直接關聯,而對於身體感知與外在對話,可藉由作品看出其中殊異的部份,這類藝術經常使用的手法也發展出一套有別於「表演藝術」 (Performing Arts)的概念,當然其它周邊型式也完全不同,如:破除鏡框式舞台及第四道牆、拒絕說故事或再現某個事件、排除過多的戲劇舞台及聲光效果…等,作品往往有著「反敘事」、「無調性」、「重覆性」、「過程性」、「隨機性」、「隱喻性」及「特定場域性」等特色。本次對談,特別邀請二位長期進行行為錄像的創作者,一探其創作背後的思維與回應媒體時代的創作方式。

The Media Body

In a new era, when the media is all encompassing, the power of the media is far reaching and limitless. Under its influence, how do young artists express the similarities and differences of their deeply embodied media logic through bodily performances? Beyond their concern for the microcosm of individual worlds, they are even more concerned with personal privacy than they are with topics such as sex, love, death, violence, technological power, illusion and existence, etc. The effects of popular media, the internet, and video gaming can be sniffed out from their prolific applications of editing, of new materials or advertizing practices. Their perspectives and modes of expressions diverge from artists of the past in creative methods or body concepts. This correlates directly with changes in the objective environment, in value shifts, and moral decline. These works reveal disparities in perceptions of the body and external dialogue. This techniques often used in this type of art has developed a set of concepts distinct from that of “performance art”. Of course, it is completely different from other forms in its periphery; for instance, in transcending the proscenium stage and the fourth wall, in a rejection of narrative or reproducing events, eliminating excess theatricality, as well as in the application of sound and lighting effects, etc. These works are often characteristically anti-narrative, atonal, repetitive, process orientated, random, allegorical, and site specific. During this discussion, we have invited two artists who have worked for much of their career on behavioral videos. They will explore the background creative philosophy, and creative modes that respond to the media age.
