新樂園藝術空間第九屆新秀展｜微物之境

本屆的新秀徵選共有來自港台兩地的超過50位藝術家參與，新樂園經過初審、複審，在最後階段以藝術家作品的完整性、發展潛力圈選出8位入圍者，再經新秀小組以展出為前提，慎重就作品相互比襯、關聯考量，最後選出張嘉珍、林國鑫、張淨嵐、陳安安四位新秀藝術家，同時我們也以新秀們的作品為文本，策畫2016新樂園第九屆新秀展「微物之境」。

「瑣碎的事情、平常的事物，被砸碎了，然後被重新建立起來，並賦予全新的意義。 突然間、它們變成故事中明白的真相。」英國作家阿蘭達蒂‧洛伊書中的一段話，啟發我們以「微物之境」來呼應四位新秀藉著尺、筆、箱子、衣架…等微物符號鋪陳作品意涵，這些微物的特性，在於它的隱藏性與微不足道，他們以令人安心的，友善的方式說話，讓觀者輕易的在微物中串聯起自身的記憶，因為無須防禦、無須迴避，所以我們可以看得更深更遠、也更誠實。

SLY Art Space | Realm of Small Things

The participants for this year’s amateur exhibition were selected from a pool of more than 50 artists from Hong Kong and Taiwan.  After two stages of review, Sly Art Space selected 8 finalists, while taking into account the level of comprehensiveness and potential of their works.

Then, with the premise of exhibiting amateur works, the works are carefully considered and compared with one another.  In the end, the four amateur artists, Chang Jia-zhen, Lin Guan-hsin, Chang Jing-lan, and Chen An-an were selected.  At the same time, we also compiled the works of these amateurs into text to plan the 2016 Sly Art Space Ninth Annual Amateur Exhibition Realm of Small Things.

「Little events, ordinary things, smashed and reconstituted. Imbued with new meaning. Suddenly they become the bleached bones of a story..」  This quote pulled from a book  by British author, Arundhati Roy, inspired us to use the notion of 「Realm of Small Things」to echo the symbolic meanings of the pens, boxes, racks..and other small items found throughout their works.

The characteristics of these small items lie in their hidden and insignificant nature.  They speak through a  reassuring and friendly manner, enabling viewers to easily recall and associate personal memories with them.  Due to their unguarded and welcoming characteristics, we are able to see deeper, further, and more honestly.
