芬蘭作曲家西貝流士的交響詩《海之女神》為應美國Norfolk音樂節所委託，創作技法受到法國印象派作曲家德布西的影響，擁有豐富多彩的音色。盧托司拉夫斯基是波蘭代表性的現代作曲家，《管絃樂協奏曲》具有民謠風格，以波蘭Kurpie地區的傳統歌舞為素材。俄國作曲家、鋼琴家拉赫瑪尼諾夫1909年展開首次美國行，以高難度的第三號鋼琴協奏曲叩關新大陸，據說拉赫瑪尼諾夫當時特別自行攜帶鍵盤在船上狂練，終以協奏曲征服美國樂迷。韓裔鋼琴家白建宇，為布梭尼鋼琴大賽首獎得主，曾以3年時間完成錄製貝多芬三十二首鋼琴奏鳴曲，被視為首位揚名全球的韓國鋼琴家。

Sibelius’ The Oceanides was commissioned for the Norfolk Festival in the US. It owes its colorful timbre to French musical impressionist Claude Debussy. Polish composer Witold Lutoslawski’s Concerto for Orchestra is a crowning achievement of folkloric creation in the composer’s oeuvre. Its style was inspired by the music and dance of the Kurpie region. When Rachmaninoff visited the US in 1909 with his demanding Piano Concerto No.3, he kept practicing it on a silent keyboard on the ship to the US to impress music lovers in America.

Korean piano virtuoso Kun Woo Paik, 1969 winner of the Busoni International Piano Competition, recorded Beethoven’s 32 piano sonatas within three years’ time. He is deemed the first international Korean pianist.
