New classical elegance of modern times -

Ivy Lin's artistic creation of eastern style Solo Exhibition

The Elegance of Modern Classicism – Lin Wei’s Solo Exhibition of Oriental Mediais Lin’s first exhibition after completing her Fine Arts Postgraduate Studies in 2009. After graduating from NTUA (National Taiwan University of Arts), Lin decided to continue her studies as a postgraduate student at NTCU (National Taichung University) with a great enthusiasm for painting. During these years, she has not only taken Glue Color painting courses at THU (Thughai University), but also traveled Japan, USA, Korea, South-East Asia and several Chinese provinces, in order to find fountains of abundant creativeness.

It is often discussed how traditional artistic conventions and contemporary art interlace, Lin has gone beyond the techniques she learnt from Chinese Art and notably blends the western artistic elements into the Eastern media. As a young artist of the 21st century, Lin creates her own neoclassicism with the essence of Oriental culture.

Lin says, “whenever you stand in front of an artwork, enjoying the artist’s ingenious creation, your mind is like another face of the mirror, reflecting the very indigenous and real side of yourself”. When Art is free of imitation, it will truly reflect people’s lives and emotions at that time. From this exhibition, we will be able to explore a young artist’s innermost feelings and her distinctive spirit, which leads us to see the world in her sensational eyes.

This exhibition includes Eastern media such as Glue Color paintings as well as free-hand and fine brushwork, with subject matters of animals, plants and people. Through these sketches of nature and several experimental work, the author presents her concept of modern classicism. These selected artworks of recent years also demonstrate the gradual development of her art creation and show her unique creative spirit comparing with traditional Eastern media. Shaping her work on hand-made papers and Japanese silk paper, the eastern and western elements interlace – this is what the exhibition invites you to experience: the elegance of Oriental modern classicism.
